Day two at the 2025 Paddy Power World Darts Championship saw former champion Gerwyn Price get his campaign underway and James Wade crash out in his first match for the third year running

Today sees another double session, with eight games across round one and two for the Alexandra Palace crowd to enjoy.

The round two game in the afternoon features recent World Grand Prix winner Mike De Decker, while the two time PDC World Darts Championship winner, Peter Wright begins his campaign for a hat-trick of titles in the evening session’s second round match

The day’s two seeds certainly arrive at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championships on different trajectories. 2024 has seen Mike De Decker take his place among the World’s elite players. Establishing himself amongst the top 32 in the order or merit charging down the top 20, the Belgian won his first major television title lifting the World Grand Prix trophy in October and carried his form through to a quarter-final at the players championships in November.

De Decker will be looking to continue his rise through the rankings targeting a deep run in the tournament. At a time where many of the established Premier League of Darts players are out of form, there may be plenty of opportunities for De Decker if he can forge a route through the bracket.

Now, speaking of established Premier League players out of form… Peter Wright arrives at The Palace this year having had the worst 12 months of televised tournaments since 2013. 2024 is the first year in the last 11 that the Scotsman has not won or made the final of a PDC televised tournament. Snakebite is in need of an urgent upturn in form, both to build back the confidence that took him to two World Championships, but also to arrest the rapid slide down the rankings that may see him fall outside of qualification for many events.

Wright has also been drawn against one of the stronger debutants in the field in Wesley Plasier, whilst bookmakers have Wright as a slight favourite, many pundits have this as a 50/50 affair. Plasier has impressed without a tour card this year, making the final of three Pro Tour events winning event 28 defeating Josh Rock in the final. The big Dutchman has made a habit of upsetting established PDC pros and Wright will need to find the “A game” that has been lacking if he is to get through this one.

The Queen of the Palace returns

It’s now five years since Fallon Sherrock became the first female player to win a match on the Alexandra Palace Stage. Since the iconic wins over Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic in the 2020 PDC World Darts Championship, the 30 year old from Milton Keynes has struggled to replicate the feat. Sherrock did not qualify for the 2021 edition of the tournament and has suffered first round defeats in the years following, Steve Beaton (2022), Ricky Evans (2023) and Jermaine Wattimena (2024).

Whilst oddsmakers universally have Ryan Meikle as a heavy favourite, many suspect that the game might be closer than the odds suggest, Meikle has done little of note this year on the big stage since his 5th round run in the UK Open back in March and has lacked form on the Pro Tour in recent months.

There will be more eyes on this game than most others due to the fact that the winner will go on to play Luke “The Nuke” Littler in the second round. Will we see two of darts biggest names in Sherrock and Littler meet in the second round, or will Ryan Meikle spoil the party?

Debutants appearing in both sessions

Both afternoon and evening sessions feature Ally Pally debutants. The aforementioned Wesley Plasier has already gotten a taste of the action with his first round victory over Ryusei Azemoto but Noa-Lynn van Leuven and James Hurrell will be gracing the stage for the very first time.

Hurrell will go off a slight favourite against Canadian CDC qualifier Jim Long who makes his second appearance at a PDC World Darts Championship, his first back in 2019 where he lost in the second round to Benito van de Pas. Van Leuven in contrast is a huge 4/1 underdog against Kevin Doets. Doets ran defending champion Michael Smith close in the second round last year taking a 2-1 lead over the defending champion but eventually losing 3-2.
