Day one at the 2025 Paddy Power World Darts Championship saw Luke Humphries begin the defence of his title with a 3-0 win over Thibault Tricole, in which the world number one won all nine legs played.

Today, the double sessions begin, as eight games across round one and two take place.

The round two game in the afternoon features a former semi finalist at Alexandra Palace, while the 2021 World Darts Championship winner is in action in the second round clash in the evening.

Wade and Price the two seeds in action

The afternoon session will conclude with James Wade v Jermaine Wattimena in round two. This will be the 21st consecutive year that The Machine will play at the PDC World Darts Championship, and he enters this tournament as the 16th seed. Machine Gun beat Stefan Bellmont last night to qualify for today’s game.

The Machine has reached the semi finals four times before at Alexandra Palace, most notably in 2011 when he was 5-1 up against Adrian Lewis, but missed double 18 to win the game before losing the next five sets to miss out on the final. The last time he made the semis was in 2022, losing out to Michael Smith.

Wattimena beat Wade en route to making the European Championship final earlier this year, but it’s the Englishman who has the better of their head to head, winning seven of their previous nine meetings. Who will take victory in their first ever set play match?

The evening round two game sees 2021 World Champion Gerwyn Price play against Keane Barry. Price comes into this event as the 10th seed, while Barry won his round one game against Kim Huybrechts last night to make tonight.

The Iceman went out in the third round last time, having made the quarter finals in both 2022 and 2023 after winning it four years ago, while Dynamite is looking to get to round three for the first time in his career.

Price has won all four of their previous meetings, including their only game on TV at the 2023 European Championship. Will that record continue? Or will Barry cause a huge upset and send The Iceman home for Christmas early?

Round one afternoon games feature Woodhouse and Soutar

There are also six round one games across day two of the 2025 Paddy Power World Darts Championship, beginning with Wesley Plaisier against Ryusei Azemoto. Both will be making their debuts at Ally Pally, with Plaisier qualifying through the Pro Tour and Azemoto securing his spot via the Asia Tour. The winner plays two time World Champion Peter Wright on Tuesday evening.

The second game of the afternoon sees Luke Woodhouse take on Lourence Ilagan. This will be Woodhouse’s seventh straight appearance at the Worlds, while Ilagan makes his sixth consecutive trip to London. Woody, a semi finalist at this year’s European Championship, has never made it past the third round at this event, but his opponent has a worse record, having won just one of his previous games. World Grand Prix champion Mike de Decker awaits the victor tomorrow afternoon.

The final round one game of the afternoon sees Alan Soutar take on Kai Gotthardt. Soutar has reached the fourth round on his two previous trips to the Paddy Power World Darts Championship, while Gotthardt won the PDC German Super League to book his spot. The winner will play Masters champion Stephen Bunting on Friday afternoon.

Menzies and Scutt part of evening session

Niels Zonneveld and Robert Owen begin the evening session round one matches. Zonneveld has never made it past the second round at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship, while Owen lost on debut last season here.

The only other time they have met was on the European Tour this year, with Zonneveld winning 6-2. Who will win their first ever set play game? Gabriel Clemens will take on the winner on Thursday afternoon.

The second game on sees Connor Scutt take on Ben Robb. This will be Scutt’s second straight appearance at the PDC Worlds, while New Zealand’s Robb is here for a fifth time after winning the DPNZ Qualifier.

Scutt made the Players Championship Finals last eight in November, and will be looking to make the second round once again. Robb meanwhile has never won a game at the tournament, but will that record change tonight? Australia’s Damon Heta awaits the winner on Saturday.

The final round one game of the day sees Cameron Menzies take on Leonard Gates. Menzies will take his spot at the World Darts Championship for the third straight year, while this is the second appearance in three years for Gates.

Cammy made his maiden TV quarter final earlier in 2024 at the Grand Slam of Darts, and also won a title on the Pro Tour. The Soulger finished top of the Championship Darts Circuit Order of Merit in North America this season, after winning three straight titles on the Seniors Tour in 2023.

Both players have always made the second round at the World Darts Championship, but that will change tonight. Who will be heading home early, and who will take on Nathan Aspinall on Wednesday night?
