Michael Smith produces a second Nightly win in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League in Sheffield, halting Luke Humphries in the final to a 6-3 scoreline.

A steady 100 average in the final provided Smith with his first Nightly win since the opening week back in February and will be in full swing ahead of next week’s play-off final at the iconic O2 Arena.

His first quarter-final encounter against Nathan Aspinall would determine who would claim the all important final play-off spot. Smith, who was an outsider for the final spot in recent weeks, was able to seal a convincing 6-3 win to book his place in the final four.

Both players couldn’t establish a lead inside the first six legs but Smith threw crucial back-to-back checkouts of 136 and 132 to go one away before rounding off the match.

The St Helens based dart player was able to overturn a 4-1 lead over teenage sensation Luke Littler in their semi-final battle to reach the final.

Littler in his previous match against Peter Wright set the crowd into disarray with a stunning 120 outshot by hitting D20 D20 D20 on his path to victory, but looked slightly complacent in his semi-final clash with Bully Boy once he knew his top spot in the league was confirmed.

Littler’s historic debut Premier League campaign has seen him win four Nightly wins, an equal number shared with fellow debutant Humphries and tournament veteran Michael van Gerwen.

Humphries who had already cemented his place at the play-offs at the O2 prior to the evening starting produced comfortable wins in his encounters with Gerwyn Price and Van Gerwen to solidify a second place finish.

Van Gerwen will follow the Luke duo to finish third in what has been a mixed campaign, but the start to his 2024 campaign gave him a head start into the following weeks with his three Nightly wins in a row streak.

The remaining places of Rob Cross, Price and Wright were the only three players not to pick up a Nightly win as they occupied the final three spots, with the former not being able to finish closer in play-off contention due to a six week drought with no points on the board.
