Dimitri Van den Bergh with a perfect leg on his way to victory over Martin Schindler, while Ross Smith defeated Rock in style with a finishing masterclass.

Perfect Dimi Progresses

Leg Seven was the moment Dimitri Van den Bergh found perfection and hit helped him on his way to a win over Martin Schindler.

Early stages nothing could separate the pair, with two holds, followed by four breaks, with the magical moment of that spell coming from The German with a 126 checkout in leg six.

Magical Nine Darter from Dimitri Van den Bergh

That checkout seemed to spur on Dimitri Van den Bergh who went back to back 180s, before it was the normal route on 141, treble 20, treble 19, double 12 to secure a moment of history hitting the ninth nine darter in the Betfred World Matchplay.

Martin Schindler enjoyed more special moments him self with a 124 to hold before finding a break to get the scores back level, but it was missed darts for the German which meant Dimitri lead once more at 7-6.

Perfect Dimi pushed on from that and made it four legs on the spin to continue his impressive form at the Betfred World Matchplay.

Smith Bashes Rock

Clinical finishing from Ross Smith was the difference in his 10-4 win over Josh Rock

Ross Smith started at full throttle and that showed in leg six when he got the Winter Gardens crowd off their seats with six perfect darts, however he need 12 to complete the leg and take a 4-2 lead.

He continued the fine form winning by leading 8-3 and making it five out of six legs with some fantastic clutch finishes.

Ross Smith saved his best finishes for the last two legs with a 160 crowd pleaser to take him one away, before Shanghai to seal the victory in the style

Ross Smith found 71% on his checkouts and a performance like that will have Gerwyn Price worried, who will face in the second round of 2024 Betfred World Matchplay.

Wade Finds Form In Blackpool

The first seed sent packing at this years Betfred World Matchplay was Danny Noppert after James Wade found his finishing boots.

James Wade set his stall out early on with finishes of 96 and 88 helping him to a 4-0 lead, this included just missing one dart at a double in that spell.

His fine form continued and by the time Noppert was walking off the stage for a second time, he knew he was only three legs from his tournament coming to an end.

Noppert used that has motivation and won the first tow legs, however after missing three darts to close the gap to one, that was his race run and James Wade sealed the victory at his favourite venue.

Bunting Into Round Two

Stephen Bunting battled to victory over Ryan Joyce with a 10- win

A slow start from both players however, it was a fantastic 114 finish from Stephen Bunting that got the Blackpool crowd off their feet and the chants of “Footballs coming home” began as the players left the stage.

Things didn’t improve after the break with it feeling like a battle for both players however, Bunting did find one break to make sure he made it back to back 3-2 wins in sessions.

The holds continued until Relentless found a fantastic 121 to break throw to close the gap, before the highest finish of the match a 167 from Joyce to make it 8-8
