Changes to the 2025 PDC Masters as it expands to 32 players and will be ranked.
An intriguing expansion for the season-opening event, the Masters will take place over four days from January 30-February 2 and become a 32-player ranking event starting in 2025.
Since its debut in 2013, the Masters has grown significantly in popularity. Originally, it was a 16-player competition that was expanded to 24 participants three years ago.
The PDC has now revealed an enlarged format for The Masters, following the sell-out success of the 2024 event, which was won by Stephen Bunting, who defeated five-time winner Michael van Gerwen 11-7 in the final at the Marshall Arena.
The Masters, which will be the first ranking tournament of the 2018 campaign and count towards the PDC Order of Merit, will have 32 players competing next year.
The competition will now span four days, with the first round taking place on Thursday, January 30, and Friday, January 31, during the late hours.
Next, on Saturday, February 1, the second round is held. On Sunday, February 2, the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final are held.
“The Masters has really grown in stature over the past decade and this new format will add further importance to what is already a significant event for competing players,” said PDC chief executive Matt Porter.
“The new format means that the 2025 season will begin with a bang as 32 players compete for a ranked title at the Marshall Arena, which has become a hugely popular venue for fans.”
