Dobey Majestic Against Near Perfect MVG

Chris Dobey with one of the biggest wins of his career defeating Michael van Gerwen 3-2 in a World Grand Prix classic.

Chris Dobey started the game strongly taking the first two legs, however it was Michael van Gerwen who got the fans out of their seats with out eight perfect darts before dart in the outer bull denied him a perfect leg. Hollywood sealed the set in the next leg.

Dobey defeats MVG – 2023 World Grand Prix

Michael van Gerwen was at it again in set two opening the set with eight perfect darts, but this time he pulled the dart even more and dragged it into three before cleaning up the leg. This time MvG followed up his miss with a better response and whitewashed Dobey to make it 1-1.

Set three both players had set darts, but it was Michael who took the set lead for the first time in the game. He should have sealed the victory in the fourth set but after a missing a dart at bull to book his place in the last eight, it was Dobey who took us to a decider.

Hollywood dominated the final set and whitewashed MvG to book his place in the last of the 2023 World Grand Prix.

Wright Finishing Masterclass

Peter Wright sealed a place in the Quarter Finals with an impressive 3-1 over Ryan Searle

Both players eased to hold throw in the opening legs, before we had our first ton plus checkout of the match with Heavy Metal firing in a 115, and this followed by a dominant hold to take the opener.

Peter Wright had complete control in set three, and with Searle not on a finish, no one in Leicester expected to go for the 167 out but he did with a magnificent bullseye to finish the out.

Wright 2023 World Grand Prix Quarter Finalist

The confidence of Wright continued after the break with a 158 checkout to open up set three, and it followed in leg three with a 121 on double 14.

Leg five in set three was the biggest leg in this game with Ryan Searle missing six set darts, with Wright taking the leg after missing three as well.

The third set seem to take its toll on Searle and Peter Wright eased to victory, and he will meet Luke Humphries in Quarter Finals tomorrow night.

Cool Hand Into Last Eight

The rise of Luke Humphries continues with a battling 3-0 win of Luke Woodhouse.

The first set saw four breaks of throw going into the decider. Woodhouse had a set dart in leg four and he had the first opportunity again in leg five but another miss allowed Humphries to steal the leg.

Humphries first time World Grand Prix Quarter Finalist

Set Two had a similar with two early breaks however, Woodhouse found a hold in leg three to take advantage, but Humphries battling qualities showed once for the World Number Six.

Once again Woodhouse was prime position in a set winning two of the first three legs, and after missing a set dart in each of the last two legs, it was a 52 out for Humphries who booked his place in the last eight of the World Grand Prix for the first time in his career.

Cullen Will Face Dobey In Last Eight

The final game of last 16 saw Joe Cullen defeat Ross Smith

The Rockstar looked in the mood from the off and the 160 checkout in leg two confirmed that, with a 3-0 win in set one. Set two had a different feel to it, with both players having set darts before Smith took the decider to level us up.

Joe Cullen into a TV Quarter Final again

Rockstar took control of the third, with a 2-0 lead, however Smudger had other ideas with two clean checkouts to level us up, but the fantastic doubling both in and out by Rockstar allowed him to take the lead once more.

Ross Smith lead the fourth set two nil, but this was Joe Cullen’s night putting in his best performance ever at World Grand Prix and he will face Chris Dobey.
