Humphries reigns to go back-to-back in Leeds “It’s extra special to win in Leeds. I know it’s not my hometown, but I feel at home here”

Luke Humphries’ stunning victory on Night 14 in Leeds maintained his hopes of winning the BetMGM Premier League.

In a thrilling final, Humphries overcame Luke Littler 6-5 to win at the First Direct Arena, where he also took home the trophy a year prior.

Humphries, a Leeds United supporter, was greeted with a standing ovation upon his return to West Yorkshire, and he delivered the goods to celebrate his first nightly victory since Night Four and to confirm his Play-Off status.

Before averaging 100.96 to secure his third nightly victory of 2025, Humphries defeated Stephen Bunting and Michael van Gerwen 6-4 to set up his most recent matchup with Littler.

“It was a great final,” reflected Humphries, who also prevailed in Belfast and Exeter earlier this year.

“It’s been a great couple of weeks for the city, so I’m really pleased to get the win tonight.

“It’s extra special to win in Leeds. I know it’s not my hometown, but I feel at home here.

“My performances have been good over the last few weeks, so hopefully this gives me the confidence to get that elusive Premier League crown that I’ve always dreamed of.”

In the quarterfinals, Humphries defeated seven-time champion Van Gerwen with an average of nearly 99. In the final four, he defeated a determined Bunting by the same score.

After overcoming an early disadvantage, the world number one finished a 15-dart break to earn the £10,000 bonus and denied Littler a record-breaking sixth evening victory of the season.

Humphries overcame a 2-0 deficit to win five of the following six legs and put himself in a position to win at 5-3. He then defeated the World Champion in legs 14 and 12 of darts to win by double ten.

In his initial match of the evening, Littler, who is playing in his ninth nightly final of the season, rallied from a 4-3 deficit to upset Nathan Aspinall. In the semi-finals, he easily defeated Gerwyn Price with an average of 104.

Price is now certain to place in the top four even though he lost in the semi-finals. The Welshman defeated Rob Cross in a tough quarterfinal match by surviving two match darts.

In other news, Bunting overcame a 5-2 deficit to surprise Chris Dobey in the last eight, completing the comeback with a spectacular 121 finish on the bull.

Bunting’s prospects of qualifying for the Play-Offs were mathematically dashed with his loss to Humphries, and Dobey now needs to win the next two league games to maintain his slim aspirations.

As the competition for Play-Off qualification heats up, the BetMGM Premier League roadshow will make its penultimate appearance at the P&J Live in Aberdeen on Thursday.

Littler and Humphries will rekindle their rivalry in another heavyweight bout, while Aspinall and Van Gerwen will square off in a crucial match.

Price will play Bunting in another quarterfinal, while Dobey and Cross will face off in the evening.
