James Wade digs at Wayne Mardle after ending Humphries Grand Slam reign “Apparently it was all my luck and nothing to do with ability”

James Wade has criticised Wayne Mardle, a darts pundit on Sky Sports, for his evaluation of his victory over Luke Humphries.

Wade defeated Humphries 5-3 yesterday to eliminate the world number one and secure his place in the Grand Slam of Darts‘ knockout stages.

But The Machine wasn’t happy after his victory, as he took aim at commentary icon Mardle.

Wade indicated that Mardle attributed his success to luck, which he strongly disagreed with.

Speaking after the match, he said: “I was very lucky. But I disagree with Wayne Mardle.

“Apparently it was all my luck and nothing to do with ability. So yeah I was just happy, me and Luke had a battle but it is what is and move on.”

Wade even deemed himself “unlucky” after losing against Michael Mansell 5-3 on Saturday.

He added: “I was unlucky against Mickey Mansell, I believe I was probably the better player in that game. He got a touch a luck. Still in luckily.

“I think most of my frustration goes towards Mickey Mansell and not personal. But it was his slow approach to the dartboard and slow walking back. I thought we dealt with that in the 90’s, early 2000’s.”

Wade acknowledged that Humphries was not at his best when facing the world champion.

He explained: “The factual information with Luke is that he is the best player in the world and he’s a shiny hope for people and fans around the world.

“I believe he’s got some personal stuff going on as he just hasn’t been himself. Feels like it wasn’t Luke.”
