Michael van Gerwen and Luke Littler progress through on day eleven of 2025 PDC World Darts Championships
Day eleven of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship has arrived, with another six thrilling third-round matches underway.
Former UK Open and World Matchplay champion Nathan Aspinall played his matchup in the afternoon session. In contrast, the three-time World Champion Michael van Gerwen and teenage sensation Luke Littler played in the evening session.
The last 16 begins on the 29th of December as the 96-player tournament reaches its critical stage, but who will secure their spot further in the biggest tournament in world darts?
Afternoon Round-Up
The first encounter of the afternoon session was between Ryan Joyce and Ryan Searle, with the match going the distance and the final set. This was the closest game of the session, as Searle recovered from 2-0 and 3-2 down to force a last set decider. However, despite averaging 100 throughout the match, Joyce’s superb 62% outshot finishing percentage propelled his chances of winning. The Newcastle-born star hit a stunning 113 before capitalising on Searle, who missed the big number to win in the seventh and final set.
Scott Williams was looking to emulate his run to the semi-finals from the 2024 edition but lost to German star Ricardo Pietreczko 4-1. Pietreczko convincingly won two key sets, 3-1 and 3-0, to solidify his cool and calm performance and averaged exactly 97 on his way to victory. After a dream debut run to the third round in 2024, reaching the last 16 on his second appearance is no easy feat for the 30-year-old.
The match’s third and final afternoon session was between former UK Open Champions Nathan Aspinall and Andrew Gilding – a final scoreline that proved more dominant than what the legs won suggested. Aspinall reeled off four consecutive sets to complete a whitewash victory, but two sets went the final leg, and the two-time major winner showed his class. Gilding produced his joint best run at the Alexandra Palace eight years on, but
Evening Round-Up
Chris Dobey kicked off his evening’s itinerary with a relatively convincing 4-2 sets win over Josh Rock. A 97 average and 45% outer ring success rate allowed the Geordie to progress through and reach a fourth consecutive last 16 appearance. The key turning point was Dobey keeping his composure to lead 3-2 in sets thanks to winning a last leg shootout. He returned to round off the match.
Michael van Gerwen avoided a late scare to defeat Brendan Dolan 4-2 in a carbon copy end result from the first game of the evening. He averaged exactly the same as Dobey, posting 97, but recovered from one set down to win three in a row and reeled off eight consecutive legs. However, Dolan forged a fightback out of nowhere and came a dart away of forcing the game into a last set contest despite claiming the opening set.
The final match of the day between teenage sensation Luke Littler and Ian White concluded tonight’s day of arrows. The 17-year-old produced a convincing 4-1 victory, though it wasn’t as easy as the scoreline may suggest. He slugged to winning the first set, before White retaliated to level the game. Littler complied the next three sets and produced remarkable averages of 115.62, 98.31 and 108.88 to progress through into the next round.
