Price looking to go back to back as he returns to home soil – Night 7 preview

The 2025 PDC Premier League season continues in Cardiff on Thursday, when Gerwyn Price returns to home soil.

Price won his second nightly match of the tournament in Nottingham last Thursday, defeating Stephen Bunting, Michael van Gerwen, and Luke Littler to add to his Night Three victory in Dublin.

The Welshman will now take centre stage on Night Seven at the Utilita Arena, facing world number four Rob Cross in the evening’s fourth quarter-final clash.

Price upset Cross in Cardiff 12 months ago to go to the evening final, and he’s looking for a repeat performance in the Welsh capital as he prepares to deliver in front of a partisan home crowd.

“I’m not looking any further than the game against Rob,” declared Price, who finished top of the league phase back in 2023.

“I think Rob is probably playing some of the best stuff he’s ever played, so I know I have to be on my game.

“To win the night in Cardiff and give a little bit back to the crowd that have always supported me would be amazing, but I’m fully focused on my opening game.

“I want to keep this run going. The best part of my game at the moment is that I’m enjoying it, my mentality is right and I’m feeling more confident than I have for a while.”

Price defeated Littler 6-3 on Night Six in Nottingham, marking his sixth consecutive victory over the young phenom, dating back to April 2024.

The pair might rekindle their rivalry in the Night Seven semi-finals, with defending champion Littler facing 2020 runner-up Nathan Aspinall in his Cardiff debut.

Littler has appeared in four of the six nightly finals this season, and his comeback triumph over Luke Humphries in the Night Six quarter-finals propelled him beyond the world number one at the top of the table.

Humphries has suffered back-to-back quarter-final defeats since his Night Four exploits in Exeter, and the 30-year-old is hoping to return to winning ways ahead of his last eight encounter with van Gerwen.

The Dutch superstar has won five of his six quarter-finals in this year’s tour, more than any other player, but he has lost in the semi-finals all five times.

The closest he came to a nightly final was on the tournament’s first night in Belfast, when he defeated Humphries in a thrilling battle.

Humphries has won nine of his last ten encounters with Van Gerwen in all competitions, but he refuses to underestimate the seven-time Premier League winner.

“Michael has always been a player for the big occasions,” insisted Humphries, who leads the Dutchman by five points heading into Night Seven.

“These are the types of games that we both relish, because we know that we have to be at our best to win.

“You have to put Michael under pressure because if you don’t, he is an incredible frontrunner and he can take the game away from you.

“I do think there is a better level in me, but I feel my game is in a good place, so going into tomorrow I will be full of confidence believing I can win.”

Elsewhere in Cardiff, Chris Dobey and Bunting will face off for the first time in this season’s Premier League, with both players looking for points to kickstart their individual campaigns.

Bunting is winless on his return to the Premier League, having lost six consecutive quarter-finals despite a tournament average of nearly 99.

Dobey, however, has not won a match since reaching the Night One final in Belfast, though he did defeat Bunting 10-6 in the UK Open last month.
