2025 Paddy Power World Darts Championship: Day Eleven Preview
Day ten at the 2025 Paddy Power World Darts Championship saw the defending champion continue to show exactly why he is the world number one. Luke Humphries has still not dropped a single set in this year’s World Darts Championship and looked very comfortable on stage against Nick Kenny.
Today we see a continuation of the double session format, with 6 games across the sessions for the Alexandra Palace crowd to enjoy, all to be played over the best of 7 sets.
Fans will see some of the biggest names in the sport take to the stage today with the last two games of the evening session likely drawing the most interest as three time winner Michael Van Gerwen and rising star Luke Littler continue their campaigns.
Littler continues his quest for the big one
We last saw Luke Littler on stage st Alexandra Palace before christmas where he once again set the world alight with a record breaking 140.91 set average and sending the crowd into ruptures as he came within millimeters of completing a nine dart leg. After a few days break and with the excitement of appearing on Bullseye and being on Santa’s good list behind him, Dart’s biggest star will look to get back to the business of winning darts matches.
The Nuke will headline today’s schedule, meeting Ian “Diamond” White who looked very solid in his victory over Ritchie Edhouse in which he was viewed by most as an underdog. A quarter finalist at the World Darts Championship back in 2014, White is looking to reignite his career after floundering for a few years. A Grand Prix quarter-final in 2021 was the last time he made a run of any note in a televised event and since then has struggled to qualify let alone pick up wins at the big tournaments.
Ian White is a game competitor who is undoubtedly on the rise but expect Littler to have too much for him.
Mighty Mike has his eye on a fourth title
Michael van Gerwen has seen 14 seeds dispatched before Christmas and all too many times in recent months he has found himself among them. First round exits at the Grand Prix, the Grand Slam and the Players Championships was not the buildup that the Dutchman would have wanted heading into the World Darts Championships. He has however managed to avoid a potential banana skin in his opening game and was a comfortable winner 3-0 over James Hurrell and will look to build on that. His quarter of the draw has opened up significantly with the exits of Gary Anderson, Ross Smith and Dave Chisnall. Van Gerwen will likely be looking at the draw and considering anything less than a quarter final a big failure.
Brendan Dolan however has earned a reputation as somewhat of a spoiler, upsetting seeded players and punters alike and has form for knocking off some of the world’s best players when it is least expected. A quarter-finalist at last year’s event defeating former champion Gerwyn Price en route, The “History Maker” is no pushover and if Mighty Mike is to rapture former glory he will need to find his A game to get past Dolan.
Geordies feature in both sessions
The North East of England is well represented today with Ryan Joyce and Chris Dobey both looking to continue their run at this year’s World Darts Championship.
Joyce, who opens up the day’s action in a third round clash with Ryan Searle has been playing some of the best darts of his career in the back half of 2024 developing a habit of going deep into TV tournaments. The Newcastle native followed up his World Grand Prix semi-final by making a quarter final at the players championship finals. “Relentless” caused an upset in his second round match dispatching one of the 14 fallen seeds defeating Danny Noppert 3-1.
Searle too looked convincing in his last game as he brushed aside Canadian Matt Campbell 3-0. “Heavy Metal”, whilst able to find high level performances has never managed to put these together at the World Darts Championships having never made it to a quarter-final in 6 appearances. This match looks to be a tough on to pick on recent form with a case to be made for either player.
Later in the day the flag bearer for North East darts Chris Dobey opens up the evening session against Josh Rock. This match looks to be another exciting one that promises high scores, fast action and potential highlight reel moments. Both players are hotly tipped by many to go on to great things in the world of darts. Dobey seeks to establish himself as a top ten player and add to the Masters win that secured his premier league spot back in 2023. Whilst Rock continues to try and fulfill his potential and add senior honors to his World Youth Championship.
