2024 Grand Slam of Darts schedule confirmed

On a busy opening day in Wolverhampton on Saturday, Luke Humphries will take on Austria’s World Cup runner-up Rowby-John Rodriguez in the first match of his defence of the Mr Vegas Grand Slam of Darts.

32 players will compete in a round-robin format during the first four days of the Grand Slam of Darts group stage at WV Active Aldersley. On Saturday, 16 ties will be played over two sessions.

Before Groups A, E, F, and G take centre stage on Saturday evening, the players in Groups B, C, D, and H will participate in the opening session on Saturday afternoon.

The main event on Saturday afternoon will feature fourth seed Rob Cross, who will face CDC Continental Cup champion Leonard Gates to begin his title challenge.

Three-time second place Danny Noppert’s Group B opening is against Women’s World Matchplay winner Beau Greaves, while Peter Wright will play Martin Lukeman in the other Group C matchup.

2014 runner-up Dave Chisnall begins his Group D campaign, while Scottish sensation Cameron Menzies and German number one Martin Schindler will square off in Group B.

Before Ritchie Edhouse and Ross Smith square off in a duel of the European Champions, fifth seed Chisnall faces Challenge Tour Order of Merit winner Connor Scutt.

The tournament’s opening matchup pits rising Dutchman Wessel Nijman against Masters champion Stephen Bunting, while the other Group H matchup pits up-and-coming Josh Rock against Gian van Veen.

On Saturday night, the world number one will face the returning Rodriguez in a rematch of the World Cup of Darts final from June, making reigning champion Humphries the main event.

In Group F, teenage wonder Luke Littler will play Irish sensation Keane Barry in his first Grand Slam match, while in Group G, three-time winner Michael van Gerwen will take on newcomer Noa-Lynn van Leuven.

World Grand Prix winner Mike De Decker will face European Championship runner-up Jermaine Wattimena in Group E, while 2022 champion Michael Smith will start his championship challenge against Austrian veteran Mensur Suljovic.

In other news, World Grand Prix semi-finalist Ryan Joyce will put two-time Grand Slam runner-up Gary Anderson to the test; the victor will likely play Van Gerwen in Group G.

The evening’s first match pits newcomer Mickey Mansell against three-time runner-up James Wade, while UK Open winner Dimitri Van den Bergh returns to Wolverhampton against PDC Asian Champion Lourence Ilagan in Group F.

Before the final round-robin matches are played on Monday and Tuesday, the group stage continues on Sunday with the winners from Saturday facing off against the losers.

The top two players from each group will advance to the Grand Slam of Darts knockout stage when the group stage is over.

The quarterfinals will take place on Friday and Saturday, while the round of 16 will be divided between Wednesday and Thursday evening.
