Chris Mason on the changes he would like to see for Q-School “ It’s Flawed. I want to see the Challenge Tour used for what it should be.”

Speaking exclusively to us at Online Darts Mason spoke about how the current system is flawed in his opinion, as this year players were better off not playing on the final day of Q-School to win a tour card.

Conan Whitehead who played on the final day, narrowly missed out on regaining his card, but it transpired that if he hadn’t played then he would have secured his two-year card.

This was the same in German for the European leg of Q-School where Pascal Rupprecht withdrew from the final day action knowing that doing so it secure his tour card without playing. If he had chosen to play then a heavy defeat could have had a negative impact on his leg difference.

“I want to see the Challenge Tour used for what it should be, I think if there is 28 cards, top 20 over the course of the year. A big sample of darts not just four days, I’d still have a Q-School but I’d do it so four winners in UK and EU. I think you need to reward the commitment to the system. Commitment to the product and we do see that and I don’t think they get rewarded enough,”

“They are spending a lot of money over the course of a long time and I think that would A make the ones that come through Q-School far better, you should if you created a fair Q-School system where you’d get the best players available and that’s what we want. We want the top 128, not those that managed to navigate through a bit of good fortune, handy draw. How they do that I don’t know but that’s how they get the big bucks.”
