Dutch Darts Masters Day One. Dutch Stars Upset The Top Dogs.

A night of upsets in Amsterdam, as we saw six Dutch representatives defeat eight of the biggest darting stars in the world.

Noppert Wins The All Dutch Affair

The game started at a rapid pace with an 11 dart leg from Noppert with MvG sitting on 16 after nine darts, and that was before MvG fired in a 141 checkout to level up the scores.

Noppie’s turn for a ton-plus checkout in the third with a Shanghai finish. MvG once again holds throw and after 4 legs both players were averaging over 110.

After six perfect darts for Noppert in the fifth, he finally won it in 14 darts, before a break on bullseye in the next leg with a 90 checkout. MvG breaks straight back with a 70 checkout, before easing to an hold, to make it a best of three encounter.

Noppert got the early advantage after hitting double 12 after missing outside with his first two. This left him just one away from defeating the newly crowned Premier League Champion. Noppert had a match dart at bullseye, before MvG had two darts in hand at double 16 to take us to a decider, and slipped into single seven with dart one which allowed Noppert to seal the win.

Double Dutch Destroys Welsh Stars

First-round defeats for Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton in last-leg shootouts to Vincent van der Voort and Jermaine Wattimena respectively.

After a miscount in leg one Gerwyn Price was still able to take the opener against the throw before holding the throw. Vincent won the next three before Price levelled the score.

With the next three legs going with throw it meant Vincent was able to book an all-Dutch Quarter-Final affair.

Jermaine Wattimena defeated Jonny Clayton to the delight of the Dutch crowd.

The Machine Gun won a last-leg shootout against the current World Series champion Jonny Clayton to open up proceedings on Day One at Dutch Darts Masters.

The Ferret got an early break to lead 2-0 before Wattimena won two for himself, including a 116 checkout in leg three. The next six legs went with throw and included 122 from Machine Gun to take us to a decider. Both players looked nervous in the decider but it was a break of throw followed by some dance moves and will Wattimena will take on dancing Dimitri in the last eight.

Dutch Giant KO’d Smith

Martijn Kleermaker defeated Michael Smith on a night of upsets in Amsterdam.

Michael Smith didn’t perform to the heights we have seen recently. With a break a piece at four-all, it was a special 124 from The Dutch Giant that gave him the advantage in this one.

In a game in which Smith was expected to dominate the 180s, he only hit one to Kleermaker’s six. He didn’t one in the final leg as he wrapped up the win with a 15 dart hold of throw.

Rest Of The Action

Dirk van Duijvenbode defeated the World Champion in the final game of the night, which made it six out of eight Dutch winners. Both players struggled on the doubles but Aubergenius eased to 6-3 victory against Peter Wright.

Dimitri eased to a 6-2 against Ron Meulenkamp as he looks to pick up his second World Series event title of the year.

James Wade set up a tie with Maik Kuivenhoven after defeating Jeffrey de Zwaan. The Machine was in control throughout and he became the first ‘PDC Star’ to get a win, after winning game number three.

It was disappointment for Fallon Sherrock in Amsterdam, as Maik Kuivenhoven eased to a 6-1 victory against the Queen Of The Palace. Fallon will be heading back to the UK now to compete in this weekend’s Women’s Series. We will have all four events covered on our YouTube channel, starting with event nine which will start at 10 am on Saturday.
