Kim Huybrechts on feuding Belgium team  “For me, it’s the first time playing a doubles tournament with someone you don’t get along with.”

As Belgium made a winning start to the World Cup of Darts, feuding teammates Dimitri van den Burgh and Kim Huybrechts couldn’t even look at each other.

On the first night of action in Frankfurt, the pair easily trounced Finland 4-0. The actual darts, though, were a sideshow in comparison to the obvious tension between Belgium’s top two players. There was no handshake between the two, who didn’t even share glances as Huybrechts exited the platform.

During Viaplay’s coverage of the competition, Dutch player and pundit Vincent van der Voort stated that the pair were not speaking. He claimed it was because Van den Burgh had filed a complaint against Huybrechts with the PDC.

Huybrechts revealed after the game that he and Van den Burgh had a disagreement, but he declined to elaborate.

“It’s something personal, something private so I’d rather not talk about it,” Despite the lack of interaction, Huybrechts and Dimitri Van den Bergh romped to a 4-0 win with no handshakes or fistbumps, and no eye contact. “For me, it’s the first time playing a doubles tournament with someone you don’t get along with.”

Huybrechts has previously performed admirably at the World Cup of Darts. Initially with his brother Ronny, and more recently with Van den Bergh. Despite the recent issues, Huybrechts was adamant he was never going to miss the tournament.

“This has always been my favourite tournament,” he explains. “Why would I drop out? This is my tournament, my twelfth year here. No chance that I would give up the World Cup.”

“It doesn’t matter how the atmosphere was, the darts were good. Dimitri was very good. Friends or not were always an outsider and we can win this,”
