PDC and Butlin’s extend partnership until 2023

Butlin’s Minehead Resort will host the UK Open and Players Championship Finals until at least the end of 2023, the Professional Darts Corporation and Butlin’s have both confirmed this afternoon.

The new agreement will mark the tenth year that the Somerset venue has hosted PDC events, having originally hosted the Players Championship Finals and a European Tour event in 2013, followed by the UK Open in 2014.

The Minehead resort has been a tremendous hit with fans, with weekend getaway packages including lodging and six sessions of world-class darts action.

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Butlin’s,” said PDC Chief Executive Matthew Porter.

“Their Minehead venue has become synonymous with both the UK Open and Players Championship Finals, two of our most high-profile televised events which provide unique opportunities to watch the action in a multi-board setting.

“Both tournaments have enjoyed resounding successes since moving to Minehead, with both fans and players looking forward to our return in November.”

Jon Hendry-Pickup, Managing Director at Butlin’s, commented: “The PDC events are hugely popular with our guests, so we are thrilled to be extending our partnership.

“In 2023, we will be celebrating ten years with the PDC, and in the past decade, our Minehead resort has hosted some fantastic darts events.

“There’s a real buzz when the darts come to resort, so we look forward to welcoming fans back to Butlin’s for the upcoming events.”

This year the UK Open was played in Milton Keynes at the Marshall Arena behind closed doors because of the ongoing COVID19 restrictions in place at the time. The reaction on social media at the time was that many fans liked the feel of all the action being in one room again like it used to be at the Reebok in Bolton before the move to Minehead.
