World Series Final Day 1 – Luke Littler squeezes through, while Raymond Van Barneveld and Luke Humphries both breeze by
The Bullet bows out
The World Series Final began with a thrilling match in which Boris Krcmar defeated fan favourite Stephen Bunting. Krcmar won the match after three straight legs in the closing moments of play. He pinned two-inch flawless bullseye checkouts along the way, including one in the decisive leg.
The Croatian proved to be too strong in the scoring department, averaging nearly three points more than his opponent, even if he was more wasteful on the doubles, missing 10 tries in total.
Ultimately winning his initial World Series Final match and his fifth straight over the Masters Champion.
The Teenage Dream continues
Luke Littler narrowly overcame Ross Smith after their game would go the distance and to a deciding leg. The Nuke would weather two missed darts and finish the match with his reliable D10.
Both players would suffer from missing darts on the outer ring, thus it was a nail-biting match. However, neither player seemed to have any trouble scoring, as Littler averaged 103.30 and Smudger 97.11.
In the end, the once European Champion would lose to the Premier League Champion.
Vintage Barney rolls back the years
Without a reply, Van Barneveld defeated Johan Engstrom in the first round of the World Series Final.
Barney put on an excellent show, limiting the Swede to only two darts at double, both of which he wasted. For Van Barneveld he would post a 40% checkout rate, missing a total of nine attempts across the six legs.
In the end it was comprehensive six nil victory for the Dutchman.
The World Number One bypasses New Zealand’s Number One
Following his victory in the World Championship, Luke Humphries has continued to dominate the darting world. Cool Hand has maintained his excellent form.
Even though he hit one less maximum, the World Cup winner’s magnificent 101 average aided to his victory and secured a spot in the second round of the Jack’s World Series of Darts Final
Humphries showed why he is ranked number one by controlling the last three legs of the match after the first six legs were evenly split between himself and Haupai Puha.
Elsewhere in the World Series Final
Dimitri van den Bergh and Chris Dobey played through all eleven legs, and it was a day full of close calls. In his final leg of the match, the Dream Maker pinned a magnificent 160 checkout in leg nine. But in addition to the other three ton plus checkouts, Chris Dobey’s 132 sealed the victory in the opening round.
Gabriel Clemens and Damon Heta would be another match that would reach the distance. But the Australian Number One, who pinned 32 to win and secure his spot in Round 2 of the World Series Final, proved to be too hot for the German Giant, who could only watch helplessly on 11.
Round 2 would see the victory of a Dutch double, with Danny Noppert defeating Gian van Veen and Michael Van Gerwen defeating Jonny Clayton. Van Veen and Clayton both pinned tons plus checkouts as mere consolations in the end.
The former Winmau Development Tour pinned a 110 checkout and the Ferret pinned a 126.
