2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship schedule
The schedule for the first two rounds of the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship has been released.
As expected, defending champion and world number one Gerwyn Price will start the defence of his title on opening night. He’ll play the winner of Ritchie Edhouse v Lihao Wen on Wednesday 15 December, which itself will be the first game of the tournament.
Other matches on opening night include a potential cracker between Adrian Lewis and Matt Campbell, plus Ricky Evans against Nitin Kumar.
Elsewhere, Peter Wright will begin his quest to regain the title he won in 2020 on Friday 17 December. He’ll take on the winner of the game between Ryan Meikle and Fabian Schmutzler, which takes place the previous day.
Three time champion Michael van Gerwen headlines the Saturday evening session, as he faces either Chas Barstow or John Norman Jr.
Fourth seed James Wade will look to win his first ever World Darts Championship in 2021/22. He’ll play either Maik Kuivenhoven or Ky Smith in the final game of the Monday 20 December session. That session sees the return of five time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld, as he plays Lourence Illagan.
Lisa Ashton begins her tournament at the Alexandra Palace on Thursday 16 December, as she faces Ron Meulenkamp in the evening session. The Queen of the Palace Fallon Sherrock will have to wait until Sunday 19 December to play her first match, as she faces Steve Beaton.
The schedule for the third round onwards will be confirmed after Christmas.
In a change from last year, tie breaks will be reintroduced from round two onwards if it is 2-2 in the final set. If the score in the final set reaches 5-5 then a sudden death leg will be played, and there would be no throw for the bull in any sudden death legs.
