Eight players remain heading into the final day of darting action in Minehead for the Players Championship Finals, the last televised tournament before the World Championship.

Many big names crashed out in the first round – Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, Rob Cross, Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright to name a few.

Sunday’s Order of Play sees the quarter-final matches held in the afternoon before the semi-finals and the final in the evening, with the World Youth Championship sandwiched in between.

With the remaining eight players left gunning for glory, only four of them have won major TV tournaments, two of them first time winners this calendar year.

Mike De Decker vs Luke Littler

Those two names are Mike De Decker and Luke Littler, who are coincidentally playing in the first quarter-final, with the latter producing 104+ averages in every game thus far.

However, the Belgian has conceded in five legs in the tournament across his three games, therefore this clash has the potential to go either way. Don’t discount De Decker because he will sure be up for the test, but it’s hard to look past Littler’s who has averaged 100+ in every game on TV since the start of the Grand Slam earlier this month.

Scott Williams vs Ross Smith

An English clash between last years World Championship semi-finalist Scott Williams and former European Champion Ross Smith follows for the second match of the afternoon.

Williams’ presence has been lacking in the televised tournaments after his life changing run, but it is evident he loves playing up on the big stage. He defeated the in-form Gian van Veen in round one, before establishing wins over Jeffrey de Graaf.

His encounter with Smith should be hard to predict, as Smith has conceded only three legs in his first three games, but he looked far from his best in his second and third round matches despite dominating 6-1 and 10-1.

Connor Scutt vs Dirk van Duijvenbode

The renaissance of Dirk van Duijvenbode has arrived after a difficult past 12-18 month period where he has regressed his game following battles with injury. He missed two big tournaments – the World Matchplay and the World Grand Prix but has since gone to the quarter-finals in the last two tournaments (including this weekend).

The Dutchman takes on first-time PDC TV quarter-finalist Connor Scutt later this afternoon – a win would signify a very important run for both in context to their respective darting careers. Scutt has played very steadily in his first three matches against Grand Slam’s finalist Martin Lukeman, Mario Vandenbogaerde and former Players Championship Finals winner Daryl Gurney.

Luke Humphries vs Ryan Joyce

The reigning Players Champion Luke Humphries recovered brilliantly from a shock Group Stage exit at the Grand Slam of Darts to reach the quarter-finals in Minehead, but will have his work cut out against Ryan Joyce.

Joyce is in arguably the form of his life based on televised performances, but Humphries should get the better of him considering the year he has had since winning the World Championship.

Another day of darts is set to begin and it is going to be an exciting day of action, will Littler win his second televised ranking major? Will Humphries retain his trophy in Minehead? Will we see a first time TV ranking ever winner again?
