Gerwyn Price beat Mensur Suljovic 8-0 with a weekend topping average of 106.11 to win the Gibraltar Darts Trophy. The first whitewash victory in a first to 8 PDC European Tour Final.

In doing so, Price wins both events in a condensed Euro Tour calendar for 2021, and enters the European Championships as the number 1 seed.

The title is The Iceman’s 5th on the European tour putting him 3rd on the all time list. Only Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright have more.

After having to withdraw from the World Series event in Copenhagen last weekend, this victory is even more impressive for the reigning world number one. Florian Hempel, Damon Heta, Michael van Gerwen and Nathan Aspinall all tried to prevent Price reaching the final, but none were able to stop the Welshman.

Mensur Suljovic produced some superb darts from the opposite half of the draw to reach the final.

After opting not to take part in a large part of this season, the Gentle looks rejuvenated going in to the later stages of the calendar. A run to the final of the World Cup the catalyst.

The final itself was a very one sided affair, with Mensur only having 4 attempts at the outer ring.
All four attempts were unsuccessful as he failed to get a leg on the board.
Price showing the Austrian how it is done by hitting 8 of his 13 efforts. Add that to a superb display of scoring power, and the title was only going in one direction.

Day 3 Round Up

Simon Whitlock started the day still in the hunt for the final spot at the Grand Prix. A win over Ted Evetts kept those hopes alive in to the evening session.

Callan Rydz, fresh from his world class performance against Peter Wright yesterday, failed to progress any further. He fell to Brendan Dolan 6-1. Meanwhile Adam Smith-Neale lost to Krzysztof Ratajski and Jose De Sousa fell victim to Mensur Suljovic.

Price recorded the earlier mentioned win over Damon Heta, before Van Gerwen produced a disply of old to beat Danny Noppert in a deciding leg.

James Wade saw off German number one Gabriel Clemens, before Nathan Aspinall rounded off the morning session with a 6-4 victory in a ding-dong battle with Joe Cullen.

Into the evening session, and victories for Whitlock and Suljovic over Dolan and Ratajski respectively gave us our first semi-final line up.

Gerwyn Price flexed his muscles to beat Van Gerwen in their first stage meeting of 2021. The current world number one beating the former in an excellent match, with both players over the 103 average mark.

Nathan Aspinall completed the semi-final line up with a resounding 6-2 victory over James Wade.

The semi-finals, evidently, went the way of Price and Suljovic.
Mensur’s victory ending the hopes of Simon Whitlock in his quest for an appearance in Leicester for the Grand Prix. That ensured Darius Labanuaskus remained in the 32 man field.
