Fallon’s Nordic Love Affair Continues As Big Guns Advance

The Viaplay Nordic Darts Masters got underway in Copenhagen on Friday evening with ‘Queen of the Palace’ Fallon Sherrock taking advantage of a doubling disaster from Darius Labanauskas to ease into Saturday’s quarter-finals.

Having been beaten in the final of the same event 12 months ago, Sherrock would’ve been hoping for a better display than what she produced in New York at last weekend’s US Darts Masters and so it materialised as she raced into a 4-0 lead as Lithuania’s Labanauskas toiled on the outer ring.

‘Lucky D’ got a leg on the board to reduce his arrears to three legs but any hopes of a comeback were soon extinguished as a classy 142 checkout from Sherrock took her to within a leg of victory, which she closed out in the very next leg thanks to a 15 dart break of throw.

Her opponent is Saturday’s quarter finals will be man of the moment Michael Smith after he eased past Vladimir Andersen for the loss of just two legs. ‘Bully Boy’ is arguably the man to beat in the field after winning five of his last six events and showed no sign of letting up this weekend, crashing in four maximums and a 101 checkout on his way to victory.

World Champion Peter Wright posted the highest average of the night as he crushed Icelander Matthias Orn Fridriksson without dropping a leg. ‘Snakebite’ was in imperious form, hitting four 180s and over 50% on his doubles to finish with an average of almost 104.

Wright now takes on Gary Anderson in the quarter finals. ‘The Flying Scotsman’ needed a deciding leg to see off Swede Daniel Larsson. Anderson had trailed 5-3 but got back on level terms thanks to back to back 13 dart legs before closing out the win.

Rest Of The Action

Michael Van Gerwen comfortably advanced into Saturday’s action as he saw off Finnish veteran Marko Kantele. ‘Mighty Mike’ hit a glorious 157 checkout in the fifth leg on his way to a 6-1 win.

He will face James Wade on Saturday after ‘The Machine’ won a tricky looking tie against Madars Razma. The Englishman earned himself a 4-1 cushion before being pegged back to 4-3. Razma then missed a dart to level the match before Wade checked out for 5-3. Wade then kicked off the next leg with back to back 140s and held in 15 darts for victory.

Gerwyn Price defeated Dane Brian Lokken to book his place in the quarter finals. ‘The Iceman’ missed eight darts at double in losing the first leg but bounced back to ease through 6-2.

Next up for Price is Dimitri van den Bergh. The Belgian celebrated his return to the Masters circuit with a whitewash win over Benjamin Drue-Reus. The former World Matchplay champion hit four maximums, finishing with an average of 98.
