Price hits two nine-darters on a historic night in Belfast in the Premier League
On his route to winning Cazoo Premier League Night Three in Belfast on Thursday, Gerwyn Price produced incredible two nine-dart finishes.
Price hit immaculate legs against Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals and James Wade in the final on a night that will go down in darts history.
He also won his first game of the night, against Michael Smith, with a 170 checkout, and his first two games averaged over 108.
At the end of a fantastic night at the SSE Arena, world number one Price averaged 105.32 in defeating Wade 6-4 in the final.
“Tonight I felt like I couldn’t miss,” Price reflected. “I feel on top of the world right now.
“I told James in the practice room [before the final] I was going to hit another one, I just fancied it tonight.
“But, as well as I played tonight, I could’ve possibly lost in two games which shows how high the standard is at the moment.
“That’s how well I’ve been playing recently, I’m feeling good in myself.
“I put it down to being been back in the gym and looking after myself. The last two-and-a-half weeks I’ve been putting some hard work in at the gym.”
Price produced perfection in leg five against Van Gerwen in the semi-finals, despite dropping his sixth dart before regaining his composure, and also nailed seven more flawless darts in the deciding leg of the tie.
Price, who joined Phil Taylor as the only players in Premier League history to hit two nine-darters on the same night, also blasted a 170 checkout to beat Michael Smith in the quarter-finals.
The top four players in the world competed in the semi-finals, with 2009 Premier League champion Wade defeating Wright’s 105.2 average to reach his first final of the tournament and earn three points.
Due to their respective quarter-final triumphs over Joe Cullen and Gary Anderson, losing semi-finalists Van Gerwen and Wright left Belfast with two points each.
On Thursday, March 3, the Cazoo Premier League roadshow returns to Westpoint Exeter for Night Four of the league phase, with Price taking on Wright in a battle of the world’s top two.
