Damon Heta explains Simon Whitlock’s mid-game toilet break” Simon did say to me he’d throw the game and give it to me.”

The Australian also talked about an amazing occurrence that happened in his fourth-round match against fellow countryman Simon Whitlock, where Whitlock had to stop action for an urgent bathroom break during a pivotal leg at the UK Open.

When losing 9-8 against fellow Aussie Damon Heta in the fourth round at Butlins in Minehead, The Wizard of Oz made an unusual run for the traps mid-leg, declaring, “I’m going to burst.” Whitlock was granted permission by referee Huw Ware to attend to his urgent call of nature, but as soon as he got back, he lost the tie 10-8.

“It was funny, it’s never happened to me before and I didn’t know the rules at the time and but you know what, I took Hue Ware’s word for whatever’s going on and just rolled with it,” Heta says. “Simon did say to me he’d throw the game and give it to me. He just said, look I’ve got to go.”

“Huw said I could keep throwing (practice darts) but at 9-8 up it was still edgy and, if I could throw those edgy moments out, then great – it works in my favour.

“Simon going off probably helped me and it didn’t help him. He did say he would throw [forfeit] the game but Huw made the adjudication and, sure enough, he came back on board and I was fine with it.”

When Simon Whitlock came to the stage, the crowd let out a naughty chorus of “Simon Whitlock, he s***s when he wants.”
