Damon Heta once more puts himself in the PDC winner’s circle, with the Australian dartist victorious in Players Championship 18 in Milton Keynes.

‘The Heat’ opted to play in this week’s set of ProTours following a few-week stint in his native land Down Under for the World Series, as he delivered the goods to defeat Ryan Searle 8-3 in the final and pick up the £15,000 jackpot.

His journey was not without its challenges, as the Australian faced off against the Austrian superstar Rowby-John Rodriguez in a nail-biting last-leg decider 6-5 in the opening round. Despite Rodriguez’s early lead of 3-1, Heta responded with 14, 12 and 14 dart legs, turning the tide in his favor to lead 4-3.

All remaining legs were shared, but with all the pressure on Heta to keep his hold in the last leg following a 132 finish from Rodriguez, a 15-darter put him through comfortably.

Heta’s second-round match with Keegan Brown was his worst average of the day, but his 94 average saw him win 6-2 in comfortable fashion. Brown struggled to find his best game, averaging 88 respectively.

The 37-year-old displayed his dominance in his next three games, outclassing Niels Zonneveld, Callum Goffin and Danny Noppert. He conceded only two legs across these three games.

Heta formulated high checkouts of 121, 130 and 136, with the Australian truly dominating against his opponents, appearing in fine form heading into the latter stages of the tournament.

However, his biggest test of the day arrived in his semi-final clash with Cameron Menzies. The Scotsman threw everything at him, averaging 106.66 over the 13 legs in the match, but Heta found an extra gear at the best possible time.

Menzies mustered a 6-5 lead and had 84 left after nine darts thrown, on the cusp off a possible final, but Heta had other ideas by checking out 132 to force the tie into a last leg decider. The job was half-done though, with Menzies starting with 2x 140 scores on his throw in the final leg. Heta threw everything at the board and responded with two maximums of his own and complied an 11-darter to take victory, with Menzies awaiting a return on the double 20.

The darting brilliance continued in his final matchup with Searle, with Heta posting his best average of the day in the most important game of them all. He raced into a 3-0 lead before Searle formulated three of his own, but Heta once again found another gear to reel off five in a row to win.

His five leg streak consisted of 14, 13, 18, 11 and 14 legs, with his worse leg of 18 consisting of a 140 checkout. The brilliance from Heta put his average at 106.80 on route to picking up another title to add to his darting resume.
