Humphries Clinches US Darts Masters Title in Front of Record Crowd at Madison Square Garden

World number one Luke Humphries added another prestigious title to his growing list of accolades on Saturday night, as he claimed the bet365 US Darts Masters crown with a thrilling 8-6 victory over Nathan Aspinall in New York City.

The Englishman lifted the trophy in front of a record-breaking North American crowd of 4,000 fans at The Theater in Madison Square Garden, sealing the win in emotional fashion by sinking to his knees after landing the final double.

This triumph marks Humphries’ second career win on the PDC World Series of Darts circuit, and continues a remarkable run of form in 2025. Already a World Masters and Premier League champion this year, the 29-year-old added another major feather to his cap in one of the sport’s most iconic venues.

“This venue is something special,” said a visibly moved Humphries after the final. “To win here, in front of this crowd, is a moment I’ll never forget. It feels like another major title, that’s how much this one means to me.”

The final was a rollercoaster, with Humphries racing into a 3-0 lead before Aspinall launched a determined comeback. The 2019 US Darts Masters champion clawed his way back to 5-5, producing a clutch 90 checkout on the bull to level the contest. But Humphries responded like a champion, landing a spectacular 142 checkout to regain control and eventually finishing the job on double eight.

“Nathan never gives up,” Humphries said. “He’s such a gritty player. I knew he was going to come back at me, and when he missed those two darts to take it to 7-7, I knew I had to take my chance. I’m over the moon to get the job done.”

Humphries also paid tribute to the crowd and his family: “The fans have been brilliant all week. To have my mum and dad here makes it even more special — sharing this moment with them means the world.”

Aspinall, who has rediscovered some of his best form in recent months, was gracious in defeat and proud of his weekend in New York.

“I think this has been one of my best tournaments in a long time,” he said. “I played well in the final, but Luke showed exactly why he’s the number one player in the world. He just had that little bit extra at the end.”

The final was the culmination of a sensational weekend of darts in the Big Apple. Humphries had opened his campaign with a win over Stowe Buntz, before dispatching American hopeful Danny Lauby 6-2 in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, he put on a dominant display against Gerwyn Price, rattling off five consecutive legs from 2-2 to seal a 7-2 victory.

Aspinall’s route to the final was equally impressive. After seeing off Canada’s top-ranked player Matt Campbell in the first round, he edged a high-quality quarter-final against World Champion Luke Littler. The match featured incredible scoring from both men, with Littler averaging nearly 109 and Aspinall firing back with a 106 average of his own to win 6-4.

In the semi-final, Aspinall faced Australia’s Damon Heta and again delivered when it mattered. Despite Heta nailing a 170 checkout, Aspinall remained composed, pulling away for a 7-3 win and booking his spot in the final.

Elsewhere in the quarter-finals, Price took down two-time US Darts Masters winner Michael van Gerwen 6-3, while Heta recorded a dominant whitewash over American qualifier Jason Brandon, who had stunned Rob Cross the night before.

As the dust settles on a thrilling US leg of the World Series, the PDC now heads to Gliwice, Poland, for the Superbet Poland Darts Masters on July 4–5, where another stacked 16-player field will compete for the title.

For Humphries, this latest triumph reinforces his status as the dominant force in world darts, ahead of his defence of the World Matchplay in July.
