Day 4 of the 2024 World Grand Prix Darts was underway this evening, with two former Grand Prix winners going head-to-head. Round two concludes tonight after the final four second-round games before the business end of the tournament commences on Friday.

Gary Anderson 0-3 Mike De Decker

Mike De Decker put his foot on the gas right from the off to reel off three legs in a row and claim the first set, averaging just over a ton.

Gary Anderson stepped up during the second set to force a last leg decider. The Scotsman didn’t hit a starting double with his first three darts which enabled the Belgian to formulate a marginal lead. As the leg progressed De Decker threw six trebleless shots which Anderson couldn’t capitalise on which resulted in the 28-year-old doubling his set advantage with the Shanghai 120 outshot.

As always The Flying Scotsman showed his true grit to try and forge a comeback, with once again the third set turning into a last leg decider. De Decker formulated a 160 checkout to go one away from victory, but seven missed double off attempts forced the last leg. De Decker cemented his spot with a 12-darter to reach his first PDC TV major quarter-final and averaged a sensational 95.74.

Gerwyn Price 0-3 James Wade

The former Grand Prix winners and close friends went head-to-head for the second game of the evening. James Wade claimed the opening set after five consecutive holds of throw before doubling his set advantage.

Wade continued performing at his brilliant best as the game progressed to seal the next two sets to round off a whitewash win. Price wasn’t at the races which enabled Wade to win in style. The last time Wade had a run to the quarter-final or further at the Grand Prix was when he last reached the final in 2014, ending a decade long spell of first or second round exits.

Daryl Gurney 2-3 Joe Cullen

The 2017 champion Daryl Gurney raced into a first set lead, winning it 3-1. The Northern Irish star had a 2-1 leg lead in the second set but Joe Cullen produced clutch doubles with his final dart in hand to level up the affair and then proceed to equal the match in sets.

After the interval in a blink of an eye Gurney responded with a 107 average to regain the overall lead to put himself 2-1 up, but double trouble once again allowed Cullen in on the fourth set. Multiple missed doubles saw Cullen whitewash and wrapped it up hitting two superb double 18’s after missing the big treble 19 by hitting the single 7.

The momentum fell into Cullen’s hands which saw him complete another whitewash set in the final. Both players produced a standard from their best, with Gurney averaging 80.10 to Cullen’s 82.52.

Dave Chisnall 1-3 Dimitri Van den Bergh

Dimitri Van den Bergh’s doubling told the story on the final game of the night in his match with Dave Chisnall. The Belgian star joins fellow compatriot De Decker in reaching the quarter-finals.

Chisnall established a set advantage to lead despite struggling on the doubles but that was all he could salvage with the recent UK Open winner clawing his way back in. Van den Bergh proceeded to whitewash him to level up the tie, but stayed cool, calm and collected to win the next two sets in last leg deciders.

Van den Bergh matches his best run in the double in and out format whereas the in-form Chisnall will see another chance at a potential major winner gone, with the St Helens star coming into this match as the favourite considering recent form on the ProTour.
